Gaming

CoastCon has a long history of offering some of the best in gaming, whether your preference is role-playing, card games, miniature wargaming, or just a friendly round of Monopoly. It is our intent that CoastCon 35 be no exception.  As usual, all gaming events and open gaming will be consolidated into one area, for convenience.

Tournaments

All tournaments must be scheduled with the Game Operations Director (John Grigsby) in advance of the convention (deadline is February 28, 2012). If your tournament is not approved by the G.O.D. before that date, it will not be officially supported. Tournaments will be scheduled to begin no earlier than one (1) hour after registration opens and no later than two (2) hours before registration closes.

Open Gaming

Open gaming is permitted at all hours that the gaming hall is open (see below). However, gamemasters should check in with the G.O.D. (or the duty monitor) for a table assignment. All tables will be numbered, and if you take up a table that is reserved for a scheduled game or tournament, you will be asked to move.

Gamemasters Wanted

As much as several members of our staff might wish to spend the entire con playing or running games, unfortunately nothing else would get done. So we turn to you, the members. If you have experience at running any kind of game, we want you! Whether your specialty is role-playing, tabletop miniatures, wargames, or card games, we want you to come and run games for us.

If you choose to volunteer your time as a gamemaster, you can receive a free convention membership. However, you must work at least 12 hours over the course of the weekend in order to qualify.

Of course, we understand that not everyone wants to spend all of their time running games. If you just want to run a single session or two, and aren’t concerned about getting a free membership, you are more than welcome to do so. However, we do encourage early registration.

Early Registration

If you know that you are going to be running one or more games at CoastCon 35 (including tournaments), we encourage you to pre-register your game as soon as possible. Pre-registration has several benefits:

  • Free advertising for your game via the CoastCon website
  • Customized sign-up sheets at the Gaming Hall monitor’s station
  • Your game will be listed on the CoastCon 35 gaming schedule and in the program book
  • All pre-registered gamemasters will receive a Game Master ribbon for their badge

Be a Game Donor

If you have a supply of board games at home, and don’t mind other people using them, bring them to the convention! Make sure that your name is on the container somewhere (a highly visible location is preferred), include a list of components in the game, and turn them in at the Gaming Hall monitor’s station. If someone spots a game they want to play, they turn in their driver’s license to the monitor on duty and sign the game out. When it is returned, the monitor will check to insure all components are returned and that the game is in the same condition it was before returning the license.

Gamemaster Registration

Are you coming to CoastCon 35 as a gamemaster? Want a shiny Gamemaster Ribbon-of-Awesome for your badge? Want to get in to the convention for free?  Just GM 12 hours of games throughout the weekend and get a free membership. Interested? Fill out the form below!

Magic the Gathering Tournament sponsored by Kite and Anchor

In the Magic game, you play the role of a planeswalker—a powerful wizard who fights other planeswalkers for glory, knowledge, and conquest.  Your deck of cards represents all the weapons in your arsenal. It contains the spells you know and the creatures you can summon to fight for you.  Kites and Anchor will once again be hosting Magic Tournaments throughout the weekend as well as demos on how to play the game.  Specific schedule to come.
